Today (April 22nd, 2020) marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, which also coincides with the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2016! Here at PLASMA we want to play our part in preserving the special beauty of our favorite planet, Earth. These are some of the efforts we are working on to help make that happen.
PLASMA 6 is in the making and close to pre-print! Not only are we excited to be releasing our sixth issue, but are thrilled to have our very own Pale Blue Dot at the center point of this year’s magazine! Climate change, microbiology, and the history of viruses build a whole new chapter in the upcoming release. We are happy to say that both Earth and space biology will continue to be an integral magazine chapter in future issues.
Sir David Attenborough is a champion of humanity and Earth. Over the years he has persistently warned us of our “last chance” to change our behavior to prevent climate change damage of catastrophic proportions to our planet. He urges people to “stop waste of any kind”, including energy, food and plastic. Failing to reduce emissions will push the world through a “one-way door”, with irreversible consequences for life on Earth caused by the melting of Arctic ice and other results of rising temperatures. “This is the very last moment we have in which we can hope to stem some of these disasters,” he said in an interview on the BBC.
